Fitchburg-MSGT. Harold L. Brown, 78, U.S. Army retired, was stricken ill and died in HealthAlliance Hospital Leominster on December 31, 2017. Harold was born in Foster Texas son of Jessie and Lena (Harris) Brown on May 15, 1939. Harold honorably served in the U.S. Army for 26 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1982. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of The Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Army Commendation medal.  He also received the pistol sharpshooter badge, machine gun experts badge and the Drill Sergeant Identification badge. After retirement Harold had worked for Fitchburg State University and the Johnsonia Building.

Harold was a life member of the American Legion Post 429, Cleghorn, where he was a Past Commander and a Life Member of the VFW Townsend, where he was also a Past Commander. Harold loved to cook, enjoyed Foxwoods and loved spending time at Old Orchid Beach.

He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (O’Dell) Brown. He leaves his  partner  Elaine Dauphinais, daughters Alicia Surrette of Southbridge, Julia Tunstall and Blanche Johnson of Texas and sons Harold Brown Jr and Billy Tunstall of Texas, a sister Ruth Hardy of Texas and his grandchildren; Katelyn, Victoria, Zoe and Isela Mariah.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 1pm in the Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St. Fitchburg. Inurnment in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery Winchendon will take place at a later date. There are no calling hours.
